This is a subject that has intrigued me. And any all opinions and corrections to my thinking are welcome.
I have it as a general rule of thumb that British and Continental Damascus was finished with a brown (plum) and white colour scheme. And that American guns typically had their Damascus barrels finished black and white.
So this leads me to Lindner's guns. They were Prussian made but made for the American market and ordered/paid for by an American company. Should the barrels be finished brown and white or black and white? And is there any evidence of how they were actually finished.

FWIW, over the years I've seen and handled a number of Lindner guns and all were finished in black & white. A gun that I saw last year at the Southern had very nice black & white finish that Bill Graham said that if I bought the gun he would refuse to refinish the barrels period.

I think for hear on out that with respect to things Lindner, meta-data is going to need to be attached like whether it is Series I or Series II; whether Hammer or Hammerlesss and whether A&D Body Action or A&D Body Action with Belts & Braces.
I think that the Series II A&D with Belts & Braces will be Black & White, but what do I know??

You make a good point Raimey.
I ask because I am about to begin the restoration of what I take to be a 16 gauge model 125 Featherweight with an A & D action that is a series two gun. Dolls head, cocking indicators, no side clips. I date it to the mid 1890s. It's a mid three figure serial number, slightly on the low side of 500. It has an un-save-able stock so that's the main issue with it. With it's current, un-save-able stock and a 14" LOP, it's a 5 lb, 11 oz gun with 28" barrels. Might be quite nice when it's al done.
Rumour has it the barrels were last worked on by Oscar Gaddy but they were clearly done as a brown and white. The finish is in quite good condition although it's losing contrast.

At this point they're no longer original so do what you like. I always liked the better contrast of black/white... Serbus,
Raimey rse Belts and braces? Got a pic showing the difference between with and without?

Ah, that's Dig's phrase for Overhanging Scears on an A&D Body Action.
I am of the mind that Series I Lindner's wore Brown; Brown Shoes & Brown Belt¿

Hochachtungsvoll,
Raimey rse Reminds me of what we used to call a Full Cleveland. White shoes, white belt and white tie. A Herb Tarlick kind of outfit. 🤣 Sounds like I will be doing them in Black and White. It’s my preference anyway but really wanted opinions on what they were probably like when new.
