I can't seem to make the forum search work. Does anyone have a source for low pressure 10 ga. shells? Besides RST, that never has them in stock.

Thanks

Salt Creek Ammunition has vintager type shells in bismuth only as near as I can tell. I have some of their 10 ga. shells which are supposed to be in the 6500 psi range. I haven't used them as yet so your mileage may vary.

Also, Buffalo Arms seems to carry several black powder loadings if that fits the bill for you.

For the price of two cases of 10 bore shells from RST you can buy a new 10 ga Sizemaster and short kit.

For me, there is no reasonable option for low pressure short 10s other than reloading. It is not even necessary to buy a press to reload for a gun that you won't use but a few times a year for hunting. My 2 7/8" tens are reloaded without a press. Millions of rounds have been loaded with the Lee Loader hand tools, and it is what I use even today for my short 10s. The kit comes with every tool needed except a mallet. But, I also have a set of scales for verifying powder measurement.

I’m not a reloader, but willing to learn out of necessity. Lee Precision doesn’t list any 10 ga. Tools?

You'll probably have to buy one secondhand, perhaps off eBay, etc. Lee made them in both 2 7/8" and 3 1/2" magnum sizes. Prices on the 2 7/8" ones are ridiculous, IMO. Maybe these "bug out" people are buying them up in anticipation of an apocalypse or some such. Seems I found mine about three years ago for somewhere in the $50 range. At this price one would be better off buying a press (eBay listing):

RARE FIND Vintage LEE LOADER 10 Ga. Gauge 2 7/8" Shell Complete Reloading Tools
US $277.85

AIR, I bought mine from a board member, either here or on the Parker site, in answer to a WTB ad I had listed. Good luck!

Look for a Ponsness Warren 375, the best loader for short tens. Not easy to find, and expensive.

SxS40, I am in the same boat. I recently bought a short 10 (NID Super 10 Gr 3), and after ordering some ghastly expensive waterfowl shells from Salt Creek, and also after seeing there is no reasonable source for 10g target loads, I am diving into the world of reloading. I just bought a used MEC 600 jr with the 2 7/8 shell adapter and have sourced some Hodgdon powder locally, so I’m on my way.

Gr8day, would you mind sharing what accessories were required for the MEC 600 to load the short 10 ga. shells? I have one sitting around here somewhere in the garage that I have never used.

Thanks

I’m assuming your MEC is the 10g model.

I’m learning as I go
