It's nice to know about these other options but I'm a fan of RST because they are so easy to deal with. Just pick the shells and shot size you want and order by the case.

The quality is outstanding and they are consistent. Sure they cost a little more but what doesn't anymore? Stock up and stop worrying about it.

I have been weighing doubles & for now it appears that a 6lb gun could be ferried all day. For heavier loads, a 7lb gun could be cradled for say 1/2 day. i can't remember right off, but what is that Brit gun weight to cartridge load equation?

"Six pounds in the uplands" is a very "old saw" but still true none-the-less. And, I'd have to agree with your 7lb assertion. I'll carry a heavier gun for a while, but by mid-day I'm just not very "chipper" anymore.

Yes, 94 times..... So a 1 oz load would equate to just under 6 lbs...... Perfekt.

I was reading your mind....... I knew you would surface..... But the Problem is that When the Brits Occupied Ferlach, they made the mechanics omit the sling swivels. Being an Addict from the British Period in Ferlach for the moment, I have some fine doubles being devoid of sling swivels. Wolfgang has suggest the crafted leather one for non-swivel double, but I have yet to source one... Sling swivels & Fish Scales; you just can't be without them on the Pursuit of Wild-Game....

Raimey, I looked it up and the number is actually 96: A shotgun should weigh 96 times the weight of the shot charge to avoid excessive recoil. But a couple of factors may mitigate the rule in different directions. The rule of 96 dates to the days of black powder, and because modern smokeless powders tend to produce greater velocity, a 6-pound gun (96 ounces) shooting one ounce of shot will kick harder with modern loads than with black powder. On the other hand, the intended use back then was high volume driven shooting, and the loader likely carried the gun to the peg for the "gun." If the intended use is flushing upland game, a little more recoil may seem a fair trade-off for reduced weight as the gun is carried a lot and shot a little.

To rid yourself of the addiction, go "cold turkey"

I don't like that extra hardware on a gun, but the kinds of bird hunting i do negates the need for them. I use this slip on sling on my big duck guns when wading into a hole, then slip it off before shooting, then slip it back on when wading out.
