Well....low and behold, the forend was delivered today! Guess I'm just an old worry wort! If mailing a forend to a wood guy is the dumbest thing you’ve done, of late, I’ve got a feeling you are going to be just fine. Best, Ted

A recent set of numbers published in Canada as our postal service threatens a strike.
Canada Post employs 55,000 people, most in a union and for the industry at the top end of the pay and benefits scale. Those 55,000 people deliver 20% of the deliverables across Canada.
The other 80% of deliverables is done by 72,000 people, likely NOT at the top end of the pay and benefits scale.
We need to close it down.

Well....low and behold, the forend was delivered today! Guess I'm just an old worry wort! Great, I am glad that it arrived safely, as for being a worry wart, I think you show common sense. Here, I mailed two packages on Tuesday. One was to South Carolina, it was supposed to arrive yesterday, it went from KC to Colorado Springs to Denver, and is again on its way and now expected by the 12th. The other package is to California is supposed to arrive today, but the only updates are the message "in transit to the next facility".

We need to close it down. I am beginning to wonder how rational it is to send people out to every, single, mailbox across the US and all its possessions 6 days a week, with special service on the 7th day. The very great majority of what comes goes in the trash, without a second glance. Best, Ted

Greg, here's a quick recounting of two packages lost by the USPS.
Last year, I followed the tracking and saw my package of auto parts as "out for delivery" from my local Post Office, but not delivered by my mailman for two days. Then it went to another state, and I foolishly waited patiently, and watched as it mysteriously moved around the country. It was last tracked at a dead-letter facility in Georgia. By the time I contacted the USPS to find out what was going on, it was lost in their system. The package was not insured, and I lost my purchase without any reimbursement from the seller or the USPS.
Same thing happened a couple months ago, but after the second day of "out for delivery" from my local Post Office, but not delivered, I saw the Mailman and asked him if he knew what was going on. He said that he had worked this route the last couple days, and if it had really been "out for delivery" he would have had it on his truck and delivered it. He suggested that I call the local Postmaster and ask her about it. He gave me her phone number, and I called right away. She immediately checked and said it also was misdirected to another state, but tracking didn't show that most recent move. She said she would contact that facility to pull my package and get it back to my local Post Office. She kept me in the loop via email, and it was delivered to me two days later.
Lesson learned: Your local Postmaster has better tracking abilities than we have when using the USPS Tracking system, and they can intervene and redirect lost or misdirected mail. All we can do alone is watch and wait, and hope for the best. You were smart to be concerned, and fortunate to not have to waste time and money searching for a replacement AyA forend.

The very foundation of my belief in miracles is the fact that I have survived 83 years of my own stupidity. As to the PO I have been through the same worry numerous times, the last time a set of 1883 Colt barrels went back and forth to the destination and another city for who knows why. Finally got to the owner after much worry.

I'm a big fan of the USPS, far better than the other options in my experience. I ship everything that is valuable by Registered mail and have had great luck.
