New guy here. Just joined today.
I recently picked up this Ithaca double. I have very little knowledge of these so came here for info. A value would be a huge plus. Not that it's for sale. I'd just like to know what it is and it's value. Here's what I THINK I know from my own research.
16 Ga NID New Ithaca Double
Man date 1928
Field grade with Extractors
2 1/2" chambers, 28" barrel choked full and mod. (I measured)
No cracks or gouges in the wood. Barrel retains 90% bluing. Bores are mirror bright. Lockup is tight. I didn't pull the stock to check for a serial # but I have no reason to believe it doesn't match.
Here's some pictures (hope I remember how to)

You seem to have a good handle on what it is, there isn’t much else to say about it. The NID was the strongest and most modern Ithaca (generally accepted as the best/most valuable?). Yours is early as they only have the cocking indicator buttons for the first two years or so. Your condition is respectable and while I would view it as “average” it is truly better than what would be the real average as there are so many in worst condition or cut and modified in some way after 90-100 years. The value on these is tricky as only the true standout examples or rarities command significant interest and value. That gun ( configuration and condition) could be found a few times a year for $600 by someone dedicated to looking for one. If it was mine and I was selling I might hope for $975. I would suspect the top end and a really happy day would be $1200
What is has going for it — NID - small bore (16ga)— unmodified
What it lacks - high condition — case colors — ejectors— longer barrel length (?)

Those plain old NID's, even in nice condition, are not sought after guns. They just aren't. I would say $600-$800, according to the day of the week.
