Good morning. George at Champlin's has a Lewis 20ga damascus that catches my eye. The specs all fit my needs but one thing is curious. The bores are .673 with .026 and .030 wall thicknesses. George has confirmed that the bores are indeed .673. The bores were supposedly opened before reproof in 2001. I have no reason to doubt his findings but it seems more likely that it would be a chamber sleeved 16ga. I'm across the country from Champlin's so I can't look it over 1st hand. Has anyone seen 20ga bores opened that far and still have decent wall thickness?

No....I think that you have it figured out correctly, likely started life as a 16 bore.

That is a very nice small bore, Bill. The long LOP with the nice leather covered pad is another plus. It's a beauty of a fairly priced Birmingham smallbore boxlock. Good luck getting an accurate answer to your question. BTW, wasn't G E Lewis more known for heavily built waterfowlers? https://www.champlinarms.com/Defaul...mp;mid=409&StyleID=10&GunID=3908
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Thanks for the note Stan. I have been eyeing it several mornings now. Not sure about the waterfowler aspect.
I'm off to deer camp this morning!!

I have only had 1 deal with George at Champlin and it was 100% ok. Gun was as described, he sent it out quickly, the kind of dealer we wish they all were.

Might be worth a call to The Royal Armories at Keeds , I believe that they hold the company records.
