I am building a new shop/gun room in a new building and property. I have to downsize the sprawl of miscellaneous piles of "stuff" that very inefficiently occupied much of my former basement. Now, I have no basement. One of those piles was stack of gun cases of all descriptions. Some have end loops for hanging but some do not and many have rotted away. I still need them, but somehow I have to reduce the space they take up. Does anyone have a nifty trick to keep a couple dozen cases neatly and efficiently stored? I am thinking of some sort of rack on a wall, but wall space is precious.
I am sure there are many here with far more cases to store than me. What do you do?

I stack them vertically in full size Rubbermaid trash cans. The trash cans live in my furnace room, far from my guns.

I just have mine stacked in my basement. They are all soft cloth cases. You can roll several of them up in a ball and put them in a large 16X16 zip lock bag. I have stored them that way before. They never got moldy. eightbore has a good idea too- just storing them in a Rubbermaid container. That will keep them clean and dust free. You can also hang them in a closet by the loops on a plastic coat hanger. I have done that before, too. My hard cases are just standing in the corner of the room. Good luck!!

![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/Vz8xXM2.jpg) I only have about a dozen, Brent, but this is how I’ve organized them for access.

I'm curious Brent, why you need them? I know you don't store your guns in them long-term and how many can you take with you on a trip?.
Over the years, I've collected a couple dozen soft cases some of excellent quality, some pretty pedestrian. Now I use them for shipping when I sell a gun.
They are great for shipping doubles. Drop the barrels in, fold it over, put the butt end in and tie it up before wrapping in brown paper/bubble wrap.
My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income. - Errol Flynn

On a hunting trip, there's almost invariably. At least two and sometimes three guns. We're most shooting matches. There's usually three guns. When I go to ratone for shooting a whole bunch of matches and spending nearly a month there, i need on the order of ten plus maybe a few more to shoot for fun and games. Some of my guns have excessively long barrels up to forty two inches. Some are fairly short. You can stick a short gun and a long case, of course, but that can be a bit of a pain in the ass too. I'm not planning to move again so I probably don't need to bag up everything.I own. But I still need a pile of them. Of course, there are the hard cases as well, and some of those are really bulky for international travel. Those never come out for matches nearby or even most of the long distance matches on the continent. Another four or five english style take down shotgun cases. I don't really like to use those when i'm hunting either. But occasionally I do. Seems like I need them all for some reason.I don't know why. Two are customed to the guns that match them. In the end, I probably never need more than a dozen soft cases. But they gotta be the right ones, within reason.

For long term storage of soft cases that don't get used frequently, you might be able to find re-usable vacuum storage bags large enough for several cases at a time. Fold or roll the cases, stick 'em in a bag and vacuum the air out. The cases should compress quite a bit.

I use a plastic tote designed for storage of an artificial Christmas tree. I do a lot of gun shows so I keep 25-30 decent cases on hand. If it gets a little full I just sit on the lid to compress them and latch it in place. It can be stored flat or on end
