The most beautiful dress dagger I have ever seen was a Nazi SS dress dagger with carved ivory grip. AIR it had those same spirals carved into the ivory grip.

May God bless America and those who defend her.

It seems a bit long for a Scottish dagger. I have always seen them as at least 4-5 inches shorter than this one. Like others I think it could be a ceremonial piece or a prop as someone said for a ritual of sorts. But, also like others, I am by no means anything near an expert. I have just seen a few. But, it is certainly a nice enough piece to own Kevin.

Very cool piece. It resembles a German Main Gauche from the 16th-17th century.

That Cross was used on edged weapons by the Knights Templar. It would be wonderful if it is original... maybe a G.I. bring back. Can you tell if the blade is Damascus steel? A little vinegar might bring out the pattern, if any.

Borderbill,

I am not a Mason myself, but a quick delve into Google indicates that there are such things as Masonic Daggers. I quote:-

“Masonic swords and daggers are ceremonial weapons used in Masonic rituals and are an important part of Masonic regalia. These swords and daggers are usually highly decorative and feature symbols and designs that are significant to Masonic teachings and beliefs.

The use of swords and daggers in Masonic rituals can be traced back to the medieval Knights Templar, who were known for their use of swords in battle and in their ceremonies. Today, Masonic swords and daggers are used by Masonic officers during rituals and are also often used in parades and processions.

Masonic swords and daggers come in a variety of styles and designs, with some featuring intricate engravings and others adorned with jewels or other decorative elements. They are typically made of high-quality materials, such as stainless steel or precious metals, to ensure durability and longevity. Additionally, many Masonic swords and daggers come with a scabbard or sheath for safekeeping when not in use.”

And similar items are on sale in Europe as Masonic daggers:-
