Every one knows that Cabela's has gone down hill since Bass pro bought them out. Now they are even getting worse.
First it started with not selling Semi- Auto. guns in certain states. Now ''YOU'' can be ''BANNED'' FOR LIFE '' from buying a gun at all Cabela's and Bass pro shops by making a simple
mistake on their ''Store Policy Forms''. You heard it correct, banned for life. If you go their to buy a gun, better take a ''Lawyer with you to read ''Their Forms''. I am not talking about a ''4473'' .
They will not let you correct it, nor will they tell you what the mistake you made is. This sounds like more of their ''Anti - Gun Policies. Remember what ''Dicks'' done!

Can someone post a copy of Cabela's "store policy form"? I want to practice up in case I ever buy a gun from Cabelas.

The Cabelas/Bass Pro here in Albuquerque gets worse every time I go in and those times are decreasing rapidly. I waited patiently for Albuquerque to get a Cabelas for about 20+ years and when it came it was great. Then Bass Pro happened. It has steadily gone down hill in my opinion since that time. They can not seem to keep any knowledgeable personnel in their gun department or any other department for that matter. They are hiring young kids who are younger than some of my hunting boots.

Same thing in my neck of the woods. Cabela's is ''NO'' longer on my shopping list.

There is a new Bass Pro where I go to and a 10 year old Cabelas nearby, also. I kinda like the Cabelas better than the Bass Pro mainly because of the Gun Library that Bass Pro doesn't have. Plus they have a lot more older guns than Bass Pro. I have noticed that the Gun Library was closed (probably for lunch) the last couple of times I was there. That annoyed me.................. Now DICK'S is another story. They definitely went anti-gun after the Parkland shooting and then they bought out the Field and Stream near here and shut it down, too. Dick's is mainly a clothing and kid's sporting goods store, now. I understand they destroyed 5 million dollars of their store's guns by turning them into scrap metal after the Parkland shooting rather than having another store sell them because they sold the gun that was involved in the Parkland shooting. They do sell golfing equipment, but I'm not into that, either................ We also have a Vance Outdoors close by. They're pretty decent and have a huge selection of guns, safes, ammo and just about anything one would need that is gun related. And a large boating department and bow hunting equipment, too. Plus there is another local gun shop I love to visit and have bought from nearby. But it isn't nationally known. So, I am pretty happy with stores around my neck of the woods.

Cabela's service and gun quality was headed in the wrong direction long before Bass Pro bought them. Once they got rid of all the knowledgeable gun Library managers it went downhill quickly. You simply can't hire kids off the street with zero old gun knowledge pay them $11.00 per hour and expect to retain any long-time customers. Bass Pro certainly made it worse but zero plus zero is still zero!
The days of cased English shotguns at Cabela's are long gone. But if you want a cheap Turkish semi auto Shotgun then Cabela's is definitely the way to go. The gun Library in each store is full of them!

We should just put one of these threads about cabela's on auto replay. It's the same thing every time.

So, since everybody else chimes in, I guess I will, too. The cabela's I pass through most often has actually a fairly decent number of side by side shotguns (30+/-) every time I go in there. Some of them are quite nice, including a twelve thousand dollar holland at holland. There are absolutely no turkish semi autos in the gun library whatsoever. That's not to say there aren't some things I consider junk, but valuable junk. There are also a couple of good values in double barrels on the racks, outside the library more often than not.


Over the last couple of years, the people working there seem to have become more competent. They are also doing more aggressive buying as well as selling. However, if you go in there late in the evening or on a weekend, chances are those folks are not working there. They are there during business hours. Surprise, surprise.

Last time I was in there, there was a young guy who knew not much of anything about doubles, but knew a heck of a lot about things like Weatherbys end other mid twentieth century high end rifles.

Every time I brought that up, I was shouted down.

A few years ago, I had physical therapy in a building that was right down the street from the world’s “Outmost Forfeiter”. I stopped in one afternoon to look at the gun library, and the glass cases contained “a rare and valuable collection of”…..

Wait for it….

Remington Zytel plastic stocked nylon 66 .22 rifles. Must have been 50 of those turds.

Ted, you realize there are forums where they will talk about those "turds" with hushed voices, they're AWESOME. I just saw a Remington 572 described as being from the golden age of craftsmanship, or something equally lamebrained. As Jed Clampett would say, pitiful.
