Can anyone confirm that this is a model 500?

Yes it is indeed a Mod 500 I find it on page 29 in the history of W. & C. Scott gunmakers by John A.Crawford and Patrick G. Whatley

I know so little about these so am a little hesitant to give an opinion but that strikes me as more likely a Grade 1 Model 400. The Model 400 has a straight back as shown in the OP's picture, the Model 500 has scallops on the back of the action.

There was one of those for sale at an auction not long ago - it looked just like that and was ID'd as a Model 500.

Not a model 500.

In my 1914 catalog they are simply described as "Proprietary", my 1933 catalog shows "Model 400 Proprietary Hammerless" and "Model 500 Light Game Model". The primary difference seems to be the Model 500 has 25" or 26 1/2" barrels compared to the 28" or 30" barrels of the Model 400. Also, the Model 500 is shown as a single grade (Grade 2) rather than the three grades available for the Model 400.

I must say, this is one of the reasons I find these guns interesting. The variations produced seem apparently limitless, subject only to the whims of the customer.
