Half way through the year and we are all 6 months (1/160th of our lives) through another year and Dave and his website are still functioning 26 years after its founding (actually I have no idea when Dave created BBS but it was a long time ago). It's worth helping out.

I was taught in grade and high school that the vernal equinox was March 21, the summer solstice was June 21 (the longest day of the year), the autumnal equinox was September 21, and the winter solstice was December 21 (shortest day of the year). Now, they want us to know that it may be on the 22nd.

I don't really care if the new way of determining it deems that it is a few hours different. Why not just let me go on believing a "lie"? What does it really matter anyway?

No wonder the Mayan and Aztec civilizations failed... they made all of those human sacrifices on the wrong days.

The summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere are when the earth is tilted the longest toward the sun. There never was a certain date when it happened on. It can happen on June the 20th, 21st or occasionally the 22nd in the northern hemisphere. Mainly because the year is 365.242 days long. Or December 20th or 21st in the southern hemisphere. It has always been that way. 1975 was the last time it was on June 22nd. The next time will be 2203. Class dismissed. 😊

I remember when I first joined Oscar Gaddy, Bill Wise, Larry Brown and a lot of others were on here. I thought I was one of the first ones, but I believe there was an older version before this one started. Maybe Dave will explain this to us.

Ok ok. . .equinox, solstice, Ides of March, Lady's Day, Nowruz, Nunces, Sunstead. . .whatever. . .I accept the brick-bats. The key concept though is supporting this site. smile. - given the educated responses, the case has been made.

And this site has to be one of the first on the internet. . .the amount of knowledge compiled here is incredible. It needs to be preserved. (the number of insults hurled is also impressive - some of them quite imaginative).

Dave getting the hang of an 8 bore black-powder Reilly rifle hammergun - kick doesn't look all that bad - other than hair flying, being knocked backwards and the eyes closed in pain:

If you notice, as the site gets older the first threads got deleted. So, preserving them may be difficult. It started in the fall of 2001 and the first five odd years got deleted unless Dave has them recorded somewhere. I always wondered about that.......... And by the way...... you titled the thread you started with "Summer Solstice". So, okay. Whatever. 🤷‍♂️

Everything on the internet is on a server somewhere.

You can always try here: https://web.archive.org/

AI queries into gun history for research often link to early discussions here that are archived on a server somewhere.

I remember all those gentlemen Jimmy. Of course, Larry Brown is still with us, although I understand he has been fighting some health problems. He actually popped back into the board recently to let everyone know that he is still alive and kicking and hoping to be back on the board soon. As for the picture of Dave shooting the big shoulder canon, I remember seeing that. I think it was posted under one of the Vintagers shoots categories although I dont remember the year. Of course, there was the Shooting Sportsman bulleting board which turned into a political barrel of garbage. It changed for a bit but I am not sure it ever got any better. I was a member there, and may still be????. I am not even sure it still exists. Not sure, but I think some of the individuals that caused that board to go to pot MAY have gravitated over here, under different names of course. Nonetheless, you are correct about THIS board. I have gleaned more information from the people on this board than I ever dreamed existed about double guns. I hope this one never goes away. I still continue to give a small amount to Dave each year to help with the upkeep of the board and to hopefully ensure that it will not go away.
