I have come across a pretty good deal on a Model 23 (please don't ask the version, as I think it is a pigeon grade). It has 25 1/2" barrels, straight stock, 12 ga., the wood is excellent and I would say (IMHO) that the entire shotgun is no less than 95% condition.

The individual is asking just under $1100 CDN for it.

Can anyone tell me if these are adequate field shotguns? I am assuming so, but look to you good folks for guidance.

Sure. They are little fancy for field use but nothing wrong with 'em. Make sure it is a 23 and not a 24.

I would be a couple at the price mentioned. Is it in Canada? You will need to get it through Customs which means some paperwork and cost. I have 3 M23's and they are excellent field guns.

I have three Model 23s, a 12, a 20 and a 28 gauge. They are excellent guns and very good hunting guns. They are not "too fancy" to hunt with!

That is a excellent price. They will cost $2000 and up in the states.

I fired approx 2500 rounds thru mine in Argentina, never missed a beat or failed to eject. Some of the ammo was a little less than top self, also.

Well, I picked it up Saturday.
It is a M23 Pigeon Grade XTR Lightweight with 25" barrels, choked IMP Mod and IMP Cyl, straight stock. Wood has very nice figuring and the metal surfaces are 100%.

I can't believe I got it for $1000 CDN.

I do need to get myself used to shooting targets and birds with the barrels beside each other rather than stacked.

Get out and shoot it...often! I just used my M23, 20 gauge Pigeon on doves Saturday and today...Sweeeeeeeeeeet!
