Separated ribs, broken springs, etc. kept Giacomo pretty busy too. They’re still busy doing that kind of work on P-guns.

All guns will need serviced eventually. Shit happens.

I’d bet that the number of P&V gun owners in the states could probably be counted on 1 maybe two hands. They probably don’t care if something breaks, they have other guns to shoot while it’s out getting repaired.

P&V guns just don’t look nice, they are top of the line.Fit. Finish. Mechanics. The machining on the actions is approaching space grade, similar to Fabbri. I’d bet they really don’t cater to the high volume, sporting clays, target crowds. Game guns and Pigeon guns are what I’m familiar with. I’ve only seen a few. A couple of Purdey Sporters and a couple pigeon guns that Tom Bryant couldn’t wait to show me back in the Cabelas golden days.

Years ago there were a good number of of them showing up.

IIRC Paul Melton (mel5141) has a P & V in 20 ga. that he enjoys using on doves.

Edited to add: After sleeping on it a couple nights I believe Paul's gun is a Fabbri, and not a P & V.

Sorry for the mistake.

I’m pretty sure there’s more than a few in use in the Detroit metropolitan area.
Pacific sporting seems to do a decent business in them. I don’t know about new ones, but definitely used ones.

Out there doing it best I can.

What I’m saying is that I’ve actually had a few P&V made guns in my hands. I’m familiar with them. Familiar how they’re made. The mechanics. The quality.Thats the point I was making. I’m not a guy who says something because it’s something I read and a friend of a friend who has a friend has one, etc.
With that said…I haven’t had a P&V target specific gun(trap, skeet, sporting clays) in my hands, so I can’t give an opinion on those.

Still curious?

I recall when they were first being brought to US. I had the impression it was a new company.id guess this in the mid to late 90’s. Two guys brought them to a few shoots. Display guns. I think they had some “improved” roller system on the hammer springs that was being promoted.

The guns were beautifully finished and engraved. Being a fool for quality guns I inquired about getting one made to order engraved like one of the display guns. I was told “That engraving is not available but we will do something similar and you won’t know the difference.” I found that odd and passed.

Iirc they built bolt guns and double rifles as well. All beautifully finished.

A guy who lived in Pa and Mt became a dealer for them. Had a dozen or so of the guns in open cases in his house. He also had dogs. Last I heard the dogs, not being house broken used the guns and cases as dogs will do. They were ruined due to pitting I was told.

A couple people bought early guns and had a lot of trigger and rib issues. Service was unsatisfactory and I’ve heard very little since.

It’s very likely all this was fixed years ago. I was just never compelled to take the plunge.

first, I appreciate all the feedback. Since I am not a serious competitor, when I say for clays, the gun won't see the kind of volume serious shooters put them through. However, I am reminded something my gunsmith says, which is, " they all can break". So getting them repaired is important, more than the engraving.

That's part of why I jumped on the Zoli Kronos I found.

Not only are the parts available, but Rob Carlson in Tomah is only 90 minutes away.
