A friend just gave me nearly a whole box of 12 Ga shotshells that are unlike any I've seen before. They are headstamped "Alcan Incorporated". They seem to be constructed like a paper or plastic shell in that they are two piece, that is the head is separate from the body. They use a shotgun primer (can't tell if it is a 57 or a 209). The head is magnetic and looks to be copper plated, so I assume it's steel. The case itself is silver colored and non magnetic and looks like aluminum. Since they are loaded, I can't tell if there is a base wad or how the head is attached to the body. Has anyone ever seen one of these? Was this an attempt to make a cheaper version of the all brass shell? Seems like with the extra work involved in assembling the base and tube, there couldn't have been a huge savings in manufacturing cost. Comments or info?

Alcan teamed with S&W-Fiocchi and produce some shotshells. In what type of box were they?

Kind Regards,

The shell body is zinc. They were called "Alcan-Metal". I bought a box of 100 in the '60's new, for a very small amount, maybe $4.95. Collectors are now paying $1.00 or more, each. They were a royal PITA, worse than brass, if possible.
