Jason, thanks for the explanation. Did they use acraglass for the repair? I wasn't trying to belittle you wonderful gun, just was surprised to see that on so new an old gun. What a time capsule.

devrep,
I understand, no worries here. The gun is what it is, and it's a high condtiion piece with the infamous crack behind one of the side plates. It was fixed with acraglass. Some would say I should not have fixed it. However, I shoot my guns though on high condition ones they don't go through the brush like my Field grade will, but for me to own a gun it has to be able to shoot. I didn't want to cause any further damage and thus I had it repaired, which of course is invisible on the outside.

Jason H,
I may have a Specialty Grade w/ all the configurations that make up a "trap gun". RE 93876 (1926ish?) Large beavertail Hunter One Trigger High vent rib 32" F/F barrels
The tell tail LC chisel effect of the side plates has taken place. It's been repaired, but don’t know how well. A new coat of finish has been applied at some point. It has a vented rubber pad, but I don’t recall the make. I can get more info if you need. byee @ netapp . com (just remove the spaces)

brian: does your gun have the reinforcing wedge/barrel loop support? Please check out the 'LC Smith Trap and Skeet Guns' album http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery.fcgi?p=999&gid=17127707

Brian,
As Drew already stated, you may very well indeed have a trap package gun. To note though, the double barrel trap package as a special option was changed in 1925 or so with the advent of the Vent rib option.
It seems as though what was once special order options became more "a la carte" in late 1925 and Hunter Arms advertised these type of guns as TRAP AND FIELD guns. Since your gun has the Vent rib option, it will not have the "T" in the ledger as the "T" was dropped and replaced in the coding, at least I believe this, to REOBV, standing for Regular frame, ejectors, Hunter selective one trigger, Beavertail, Vent rib.
Earlier guns were marked as such with the "T", at least that is the theory. Your guns sounds wonderful...would love to see pictures of it as on a side note, there have been several variations of engraving of the side plates on Specialty grades, thus it would be neat to see both sidelocks in a picture to compare. Drew has a Picture Trail showing the different variations...I don't have the link handy, but I am sure he will supply it if he reads this...he has put alot of work into things like this.

Jason H,
Thank you for the in-sight and education. Let me know when your research is complete, I would enjoy giving it a read. I just sent some Colt 1883 pics to Revdocdrew. I’ll take a few pics of the LC this afternoon and send it his way. The left side has 2 quail and right side has a duck in flight.
Thx, -brian
