I've been using Trewax on my damascus barrels as that's what Dale E. recommended. Do any of you use wax on fluid steel barrels? How about on the entire gun, receiver and all? Just curious.

I recently purchased a Stevens 512 Gold Wing 12G o/u made by the Hatfield Gun Co. of Turkey which has brass onlays (not inlays), black chrome receiver and black chrome bbls. I applied three coats of Trewax to the whole gun without any problem surfacing, as of yet; and, it looks really good......nice and shinny, just how I wanted it.

I was planning to Trewax only the stock and forend of several others, but reluctant to Trewax silver nitride and/or blued metal. I'll wait to hear what others suggest, as to Trewax on silver nitride and blued bbls. I know, from experience, not to use a silicone impregnated cloth on silver nitride, since that causes it to turn an ugly brown and real difficult to restore.

"Wax" is OK for any gun material. However, some wax formulations may have a bit of acidic content. I used Johnsons' Paste Floor Wax for 25 years with narry a hitch. I now use Ren Wax just in case ----. Wax is a solid when the solvents dry. As such, it will never run off the surface and adds some level of abrasion resistance. It is a bit less likely to trap gritty airborne dust than oil or grease products. The only issue would be if it made a surface too shiny for your appearance taste.

No thanks! Wax imples rubbing and my ole' BLE with CC action needs none of that! I use camel hair brush with tiny amount of Beeman 'Metalophilic' No 5.

I bought some Ren-Wax on the recommendations of several on the board. I can't say it has done anything to justify the cost, for me. I wipe my guns with a flannel rag containing Sheath, usually, and have had no rusting problems. Ballistol seems to show some promise, as well. My perception is that the wax disappears shortly. If I was going out to shoot in the rain, I'd probably apply a wax but shooting in the rain, deliberately, is not in my daily plan.
