What is the great looking firearm beside you and the deer?

Howdy Brent, it's a fallow deer taken at Caryonah Lodge in eastern Tennessee, and very tasty too! I have a lot of things to be very thankful for this year.

The rifle is a 20 gauge (.62 caliber) modern built Jaeger styled flintlock that came my way this summer. The shot was about 50 yards with the deer facing me; the ball traveled nearly through, end-to-end, and damaged no meat while putting the deer down right there.

I sorta figured it might be but it does not look like a normal fallow deer to me. It is somewhat unusual in its antler configuration?

Nice shooting Steve!!! I agree with BrentD is there such a thing as a non typical Fallow deer????
Also I disagree wholeheartedly with the placement in that picture of that fine looking rifle!!! It looks like it was placed in the picture almost as an after thought, you should be holding it, so everyone can see it!!!!
One thing to remember you make things hard on your flinter your flinter will make things hard on you!!!!!
All the best

Thanks!

I do need to get a better picture of that rifle, it really is a nice piece of work. It was advertised as being made by a B.J.Hammermill, but I have not been able to find such a builder though there is a B.Habermehl in PA that makes rifles very reminiscent of this one. Whoever made it, it's a peach.

The deer may be one of the Mesopotamian variety of fallow deer, a cross between the two, or just a not fully mature buck; I'm not sure. Definitely a handsome fellow, though, and an unforgettable experience. And tasty!
