Hi All, I know this is off-topic, but bear with me.

I have 2 Savage 720's, 16 and 12 gauges. Had them side by side this evening, wondering why there was a "step" on the 16 GA barrel. Slipping the 12 GA barrel into the 16 GA gun confirmed it, the Savage 720 used the same reciever for 16 and 12 gauges (or at least mine do).

The question becomes, did Savage ever make a 16 GA reciever (i.e. a smaller one than used with the 12 ga) for their rendition of the A5? Or did they change the design at some point so they could use a "one size fits all" reciever? If not, did Remingon use a 12 Gauge reciever for their 16 GA Model 11? Was Browning the only manufacturer of the A5 style auto's to use a properly scaled receiver? Thanks.

Dunno about Savage (suspect they used a single receiver size), but Browning made them both ways. The 'Sweet Sixteen' is made on a 20ga frame.

Mike,

The Remington M11 used a smaller receiver for 16 gauge. From the parts list in the Gun Parts Corp. catalog it appears that Savage used the 12 gauge receiver for both gauges.
