I was lucky enough to stumble across a first edition of that book at a local show. Very good information on the golden age of English gun making.

I agree that it is a great read; it has tables of what guns won certain flyer shoots of note, what guns won penetration and pattern tests and a perspective through a series of older articles that allows one to clearly grasp the issues of the day.

I don't recall that it mentions that it might help to be a good shot .. or lucky. Far as I know the most successful flyer shooters tended to be both.
