For your info. The newspaper this morning reported that Remington Arms Co. will acquire North Haven, Conn. based Marlin Firearms Co. No terms were disclosed.

I hope this makes Remington more stable. They have had several different leaders in the last ten years. Would be nice if they became a maker of guns in America again. But I suspect that overseas guns will remain a large part of their future.

Maybe they could throw us a bone once in a while to keep us happy. I would like to see them bring back the R-16 wads as a regular item. How about a 3200 with a pound shaved off the weight and screw in choke tubes. Or while I am dreaming a 6 pound 3200 in a 20/28 barrel combo.

How do you take the greatest names in American firearms manufacturing and run them into the ground? First it was Colt, then Winchester, and since Remington seems to be nosediving, they decide to take Marlin with them!

What kind of executives run these companies?

Bean counters. They are owned by an investment group. It is just numbers to them. Wm. Ruger was the last American gun maker. Say what you will about his designs they have been made here and are solid guns for hard use. Now the family is selling/cashing out from what I see. They will be next to be gobbled up. That will be a real shame.

Cerberus. The three-headed dog that guards the gates of hell.

Firearms -" Acquired Bushmaster Firearms, Inc., from Windham, Maine native Dick Dyke for an undisclosed sum in April 2006, and purchased Remington Arms in April 2007. Under Cerberus direction, Bushmaster Firearms acquired Cobb Manufacturing, a well-respected manufacturer of large-caliber tactical rifles in August 2007. Cerberus also announced the acquisition of DPMS Panther Arms in December 2007."

So let me get this straight; Marcellus Hartley's UMC with some help from Winchester bought E. Remington & Sons out of receivership in the 1880s. And Remington bought the Parker Gun in 1934. Winchester leased its Japanase plant to make Parker Reproductions in the 1980s. Tony Galazan started making Winchester 21s in the 1990s, in addition to A.H.Foxes. Then Remington re-upped the Parker brand in 2005 with a $49,000 AAHE 28-bore made by Galazan, while Marlin started producing a name-only-L.C.Smith with cosmetic sideplates like the Lefever; Steve Lamboy's Ithaca reincarnation failed, and now Remington owns the maker of L.C.Smith knockoffs. Haaaay Abbot! as Costello aptly put it: "Who's on first?" EDM

They also bought Chrysler and hired the CEO who took Home Depot for 100's of millons before he left(their stock continues to tank).

Sometimes these LBO guys really have no clue.

Hi The last two rifle's I bought from Marlin were nothing but junk. Marlin has been going downhill for year's anyway. When I was young the Marlin rifle's were one of the best .22's on the market, but no more.

I guess things have finally come full circle for L L Hepburn...now I can park my Marlin 97's and 39's right next to the Reminton Hepburn single shot...
