Anybody have any reccomended books on shotgun fit, or know how to measure for LOP, cast drop, etc. without a try-gun?

I would first suggest any of Michael Yardley's books. Now, do you want to measure those parameters on a gun on have your parameters measured for a gun to fit you?

An excellent current book is "Stock Fitting Secrets" by Rollin Oswald. It is geared towards trap, skeet and sporting clays, however it will also work for hunting. I believe he sells it direct, Google for it.

"Gunfitting" by Mike Yardely. Excellent! Agree completely.
LOP can be measured with a simple tape measure - distance from facd of (front) trigger to center of butt. Drop can be measured by laying the gun on a flat surface (kitchen table maybe) and measuring the distance betwen the table top and the comb and heel. Pitch can be measured by setting the gun against a wall with the butt flat to the floor and the reciever touching the wall. Measuring at 26" of barrel length is one standard.
Cast is a bit more involved and requires some special tools or techniques.

The Yardley books are excellent and explain that gunfit is a compromise between several measurements.
For my part, I don't think one can do a good job on fitting one's self. Let us know if you might like recommendations for a good gunfitter and/or a good gunsmith.

Another book on gunfitting is: "The Orvis Guide to Gufitting" by Tom Deck. I would recommend you to get in contact with a professional gunffiter like Brian Bilinski (www.Fieldsportltd.com) in Traverse City, Michingan and after a session he will bend your shotgun with another fellow that lives nearby and does wonderful job.
