I was looking at the web site of Peter Hofer, the gunmaker from
Ferlach. While most of the guns on his site are what I would call
very gaudy, there's no denying the man has incredible talent. When
I look at the five barreled guns they make, I can't help but wonder
about the engineering that must go into the lockwork, to get five
barrels to fire. The fit and finish on the guns is beautiful. I'd
like to know where they get the wood they use- they say it comes
from nine hundred year old trees. One gun in particular that really
blows me away is the Hummingbird .22 Hornet double rifle. Only 2.2
pounds! I really don't know what you'd use it for, other than the
occasional charging groundhog with a bad attitude. Anyway, I could
probably buy a pretty nice house for the price of one of his guns,
but it's always nice to look at real workmanship. Ron

I expertised some of Peter Hoffer works personally incl. Hummingbird .22 Hornet double rifle he can't sell for more, than 2 years now. Fine works, but they are not worth such money he asks for it.
His target is people with huge money, but without brain.

Hi, Ron:
Yeah, the stuff is incredible; he had a display at the Vintage Cup this past year. I think it was the Hummingbird gun that used a gold bird for the front sight blade. You're right, too, about the costs, I don't remember seeing too much that was under a hundred (grand).

I made several visits to the Peter Hoffer tent at the 2007 Vintagers Maryland get together last year. The Hummingbird gun was attractive; however they had a small bore drilling that I couldn't take my eyes off of - bored .410/.410 - .22 Hornet. I didn't inquire about the price - couldn't afford it anyway.

I've been looking into is work for some time, and hoping to see the day he decides to use all that talent in something usable.

Hofer's guns are amazing and truly works of art!

He is a nice guy and loves his work.

“IF” you can afford one of his creations you will not doubt use it.

I know I would have no trouble using that neat little double rifle on a charging woodchuck...Or, man-eating squirrel!

But reality is the 10/22 will have to suffice.

I am always in awe of his work and I am patiently waiting for a rich uncle to drop over.

Here is a shot of Peter with me and his exqusite SxS .22 Hornet.

And for all of you who would rather see just the gun (as I would):
