I'd like to know the approximate value of a Merkel 16 ga side by side, it is markde suhler waffenwerk Gebruder merkel shul serial number 13384, has engraving on the frame and double triggers. it's condition is approx 75%, excellent bores and minimal case color, bluing is very good as is checkering, and wood is in good shape, any info would be greatly appreciated. I'll try to attach some pics but would like any info. based on the description in the meantime.
Thank you, scott

We are going to need to see those pics and a bit more info to value it.Are you planing on selling it or looking to se if its worth keeping and redo/restoring? Barrel -choke?,length?, Condition? Water Table pictures or info on stamps (there may be a date code:3/34-334 (March 1934)
75% condition is going to hurt it value wise but let see the pics there are a number of guys on here who like the early German/Merkel guns(me included)

IF you are inquiring about the simson/merkel 16 SXS on gunbroker, be careful, since simson and merkel were NOT the same company before the war. they were each produced fromt the same gunworks after the war under commie rules, but before that they were not. If you are considering the boxlock on gunbroker, it is priced pretty fairly on buy it now at just over one grand. pretty basic model indeed.

I already asked if its marked Simson or Merkel...havent heard back yet....Both are good quality makers but Merkels bring a premium price just because the name is better known....

it is marked merkel, condition is probably better that 75% maybe 85% finish and wood with little casecolor. this is a gun that was brought to me and i'll probably be trying to sell for him. I'll be posting pics later today or tomorrow.
he Also has what i think is a merkel SXS- rifel shotgun which is also pre war, with 16 ga. on one side and i tink something like 8.7mm on the other, that one has a few issues, has a horn trigger guard which is broker aslo has a small crack in the wood and wear to checkring etc.

Ithacaman:
I would like to see a pic of the Cape gun. Is it a hammergun? I would guess the 8.7mm to be a pre-rifling measurement and the calibre to be 360 2 1/4 Express or 9.3X72R. Although, a chamber cast may be the only way to determine it.
Kind Regards,

Sideclips, cocking indicators, Greener crossbolt, scalloped frame, pretty nice. Were the barrels packed in ground walnut hulls?? A pic of the flats provide additional info.
Kind Regards,
