i shoot left. most of the guns that i would like to own are fitted for right handed shooters. i have a fox that i had the stock bent to cast on but are there other considerations? what is palm swell and is it common in vintage american gus? what else plays a factor in the left/right scenorio. i saw a photo of a csm fox looking down at the trigger with the barrels at the top of the photo and there was a considerable amount of wood to the left of the trigger compared to the right. in other words the trigger plate was not centered. what is that all about and does that have any affect on fitting even if the cast is altered from off to on? in short, is bending the stock enough for changing right to left if other factors are in play?

Well you can change triggers but then you need to change barrel chokes. Of course the top lever will need changeing.I have seen a few old pigeon guns with palmswell but not on regular gameguns or American classics.

Palm swell is just the extra wood in the grip area to fill the hollow of your palm. It's way over rated. Very uncommon on vintage American guns. If the gun has a palm swell for a right handed shooter, the grip would feel odd to a left handed shooter. IMO, better to not have any palm swell at all.

As a fellow lefty here's what would make up a true LH gun:

- Lever that swings to the left.
- Front trigger fires left barrel, rear right.
- Stock cast on.
- Rolled trigger guard on left side
I'm sure I've left out one or two other items.

In practical terms all I've ever done is get the stock bent for cast on. A left swinging top lever will actually stop me from buying a gun as I've grown up with right hand levers and find it as easy to push the lever as pull it. I couldn't get used to the LH swinging ones.

Some guns have triggers bent to fit, I've never noticed a problem on triggers bent to fit a RH.

Guns with a palm swell for a RH can be a problem as the grip feels wrong for the LH.
