I'm with RJM. Mine and my brother's both shoot to POA, all four barrels. Both have been totally mechanically reliable. They DO kick with pheasant loads, not to mention 3" coyote/turkey/goose killers. A couple of rounds with heavy trap loads and I'm headed for the showers. However, I'm fairly recoil sensitive and both me and my brother have had dislocated right shoulders (I have a left one, too). I like the plain finish; neither of ours has extreme gaposis, but "Best" they ain't. Wood is plain but handsome on his English stocked gun--some nice streaking. My pistol-gripped gun has some very nice feather, but only on one side of the buttstock.
I find it difficult to switch from single trigger to double trigger; tends to make me miss out on some second shots with the DT. I can live with it. I wouldn't take the GL chukar hunting--falling on rock might well wreck the barrels beyond repair.

Price has gone up a lot since production has either been suspended or the gun has been dropped--not sure of the current status. Ruger didn't do a bad job of getting game gun weight right, but a lot of people will notice that the balance is significantly weight forward. Some will like that, some won't, but that part isn't as typically "game-gunish" as the rest of the package. Given the gun's weight, no need to make it 3" other than the fact that some American buyers think they have to have a 3" gun. And I don't care for the safety/selector combo, but then I'm very used to straight-ahead tang safeties.

They seem to hold around $3000 for new or barely used. I wonder if the stainless steel receiver can be engraved? Surrogate for a Dickson? Do they use similar design?

Joe, I think you are too harsh. How can a round body be ugly?

Wasn't there a guy on one of these boards who had sent his back to Ruger so many times they finally just sent him a Red Label? I would suggest you go with the RBL with the lifetime warranty for the same price..........unless of course your name is Edsel Ford.

Howdy the forum,
I just got my RGL out of the safe, mounted and swung it, and fired the hammers on snap caps, just so I could give you an up-to-the-minute assessment. I did not want to give a stale report.
Its fit and finish is just right for a double meant to be taken to the field and used. The wood is nice, but I won't get upset if I scratch it on a mesquite bush. I am more used to double triggers, but after the first few rounds, the single works just fine, and I can remember to pull it twice if necessary.
It balances perfectly between the hands, with one hand on the stock and your trigger finger where it should be, and your other hand in the proper place on the forend. I do not notice it being muzzle heavy at all. BTW, I have the English straight stock.
I have not had a single problem, and it always knows which shell to eject. Everyone who has seen it, held it, and shot it has commented favorably.
I would buy another for the $2K that I paid for it, and might pay the current asking price for a 20ga if one were available. Actually, it is so light and handles so well, that I'm not sure that a 20 is necessary.
Sliver, it is my understanding that the receiver must be engraved at the factory prior to the heat treating process. At least, that was the word when they were taking orders.
If someone has one they are not happy with, contact me and we'll work a deal.
Happy trails,
HHH

HHH - good to see you here - only thing I don't like about them is that I didn't buy one before the price went up. I poor mouthed them a little till I shot a couple, then I learned to like them.
Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.
