It's not hard, at least not for those of us that don't measure ourselves by our guns, but instead by what we can do with them.

If I'm looking for a 12, 16 or 20 I'druther have a low end American gun: Nitro, Fulton, even a good ol' 5100. Now, 28's and .410's...that's different. I like my 5100 in .410 just fine for what it is, and for what I do with it it. Never much wanted a 28, but if I did, given my price point, I don't suppose I'd have much choice other than Turkish. Either way, I sure wouldn't look down on anybody for shooting one. Just one old boy's HO.

But the Winchester Model 12- that is a "whole 'nother Ballgame" in my opinion. Even F&S rifle "guru" Petzal wrote about the Model 12- Sporting Classics magazine may/June l985- said something that might also apply to the "Old men with files" at Parker, Hunter Arms, and Fox (and other too)- "The Winchester M12 existed because skilled machinists worked for low wages back then"--I also heard that a noted English shotgun expert and writer complimented the Model 12 as being "functional and ergonomic"- high praise indeed from someone used to Purdey and Hollands.

RWTF come on do you really care what anyone has to say about the Model 12!!!
What did the Germans say about it in World War One? That it was a barbarian weapon and it should be outlawed!!!
Now that's HIGH praise!!!
The only sporting weapon that was used in WWI through and including Vietnam!! The military only dropping it because Winchester ceased production in 1963.

Wasn't it the 97 Winchester that the Germans so feared...least the Game and Fish commissions had enough sense to make people plug those nasty things.

Joe. erroneous information on the so-called History Channel, I looked it up; the U.S. Army purchased thousands of Model 12s for trench sweeping duty for the front line troops in World War One!!!!
Can you believe how terrified the Germans were of that sporting weapon to say that!!! All of those machine guns, bolt actions and of course all the gas they used and they said the Model 12 was inhumane!!!!
I took mine out, built in 1916, I'll have to admit and I might have to agree with the Germans it does look kind of sinister!!!
