Last Dollar posted Lots of funny stories, sitting stranded on a mud flat, low tide, within a couple hundred yards of the ramp, for what seemd like days. Welcome to the club! A lovely memory. Eug

Eugene,
The internet makes the world an awful small place doesn't it.
Go down and shoot woodcock with the Captain sometime, I guarantee you'll enjoy the day.

I've read Michener's book on the Chesapeake and market gunning, also the great books by Harry Walsh and Van Campen Heilner-I should think it would require 'big brass ones' to be a punt gunner in the UK-wonder how many gunners went to 'Davey Jones' Locker-ditto our market hunters in battery boxes- Mother Nature doesn't play favorites- you test Her will or laws, on land or sea, She doesn't care if you wear Peel shoes or Thom McAnn's-when She says it's curtains- so long!! I used to hunt ducks from layout boats, closest I ever came to this aspect of waterfowling-when we had the 'point system' in our flyway and scaups (greater and lesser) were a ten point count bird- very tough shooting- our boat carried a battered Browning A-5 12 with a 26" skeet choke ribbed barrel and had a sling clip soldered to the magazine cap-to which a bunjee cord was secured, other end to the gunnels- so the shotgun couldn't be lost- as you can bet your set of Schmidt wooden decoys we wore life jackets-toughest duck shooting I have ever experienced-usually mid-Nov. when the flight birds were down. I like your detailed reply sir- I'll stand for a pint or two of Porter or Stout anytime you like- and pay Homeless Joe no mind- he's harmless, after all- he spells your premiere shotgun Purdy instead of Purdey- has a computor instead of a computer- and even mis-spells the debris that accumulates in his shotguns. I tried to "upscale" his approach to gunning by giving him a favorable price on a Parker Trojan on this site-but somehow the post got deleted- most likely by Gremlins- understand you 'hunt' my namesake over in G.B.- with horses and hounds- Jolly Good!! HEY last $- just 'givin' back as good as I get- had a few 'stalking horses like friend Joseph' on the Professional Golfers Caddying Assn. site- note the 'past tense" as HAD-Joseph rode me without mercy- even started a post to Dave Weber trying to get me kicked off this site- and my former habit (I was apparently ill-informed as to deletions herein) until the rag got torn of de bush-and I did try to mend fences and offer him a "beater" 12 ga. Parker Trojan that I recently replaced with a Turnbull refinished 12 VH Parker-but he "deleted" my post- I'm not the first one to notice his gaffe on the Purdy-Purdey spelling- If memory serves, Br. Lowell G. spotted that (Purdy is the Purdey of paintbrushes)- and his error in computor/computer could be a typo-but my feeling is- as a old hot headed Irishman who has Never been, nor will be a 'Fender Executive- that is- one who takes crap from the wheels- if Joseph can dish it out-he should be able to take it in return- put another way, if he can't run with us big dawgs, then stay on the porch. You'll see Osama Bahama Mama Barracks Bag Boy carry West 'By God' Virginia before you guys get in the Big House in Knoxville- bet on it-and I grew up in Cinncinati OH- South of the M-D line by a few clicks- love grits and cathead bisquits and real red-eye gravy: one part ham drippin', one part dark coffee grounds, one part Jack Daniels!!
