Geo....I'm trying to figure out how this thread went from "looking up to pUnt men" to "cathead biscuits and "red eye gravy" to dish'n on me and the Gov'na.

I don't even own a dang punt gun or a .410.

It didn't.

It was started by Steve as an enquiry about punt guns. The "looking up to pUnt men" is all your own work.

I certainly do look up to men who are currently regular punt gunners. Their knowledge of their quarry and the seaways is remarkable as is their generosity towards the genuinely committed. Unfortunately I got interested when I was too old and too knackered; had I my time over again I'd love to have worked my way up to their level of understanding, and would have regarded it an an achievement had I done so.

Eugene, your sentiments are mine. When my Dad got interested in sculling the SF Bay for ducks, there were still a few folks doing it. He and I ventured out enough times to get pretty inspired. We watched a few guys that really knew what they were doing, it was artful. I wonder if anyone still does it, on SF Bay? Dad quit when I left. We leased a couple of freshwater ponds from Leslie Salt on the east side of the bay, and never tried sculling again. I wish we had.

Last Dollar what your dad did was miles away from punt gunning.

I'm sure it is great sport paddling boats in rough water but I fail to see the sport of shooting into flocks of sitting dUcks on the water....

I suspect that's where the saying "like a sitting duck" originated.
