Need some help on this gun. Serial number 1187E, 28" steel barrels, 16 ga. with ejectors. Ejectors don't work.
In reading what I could find, the Hercules line was dropped in 1936 and that they were made here and in Canada by Cooey.
Condition is less than 40%, barrels show no pitting on the inside or outside just a light coat of rust. Barrels have a raised 1/4" wide rib. Receiver finish is gone, I believe it should have been case colored. Receiver looks to have a dog on the left side, didn't notice the right side.
Wood finish is gone, checkering is good on stock and forend. no cracks on either.
Tried snap caps and that is when I saw the ejectors didn't work, they don't extract either. The ejector stems in the barrel moves freely, so I believe the problem lies in the forend.
On the outside of the forend there are two small screws close to the metal that are on an anle to each other. Is this something to do with the ejectors?
I'm assuming the chambers are 2 9/16".
Gun closes tight, if you close it gently it is loose, but if you push the lever close to the center it is tight, or close it hard. Forend doesn't fit snug to the barrels, and I'm wondering if it has to do with the ejectors. It has the lift lever that releases the forend, is this a Deeley type forend release?
I can get this gun for under $100.00. What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
David
