Hi ! Just wanted to enquire about this Joseph Lang & Sons shotgun. What is the flip-lever at the back of the sidelock meant for....??

Is it one of the Langs Keyed S/Locks?..where you open up that flap/hinge & insert some kind of small key to remove the lockplate?
Is it yours...& do you have the key!!!
Is the lever shown fully seated, or not quite seated?
I've seen pics of Lang Key SLs, but the flap seemed a bit bigger and was more forward than this one.
That looks to be an indicator on that side...if there is no screw on other lockplate I would think thats what its 4
Could be way off though...sure looks pretty
cheers

Mr. Otte is right on.

Those are Lang key locks. On some of them, you lifted up that lever and inserted a key into a slot. When you twisted it, the locks came off.

On other ones, you lifted the lever and twisted it. This released the lock.

I'm not sure which one that is, though.

And I think it is fully seated. There's a little gap under the tip of it so you can flip it open.

OWD

This is why I love this board. I learned something new today. Who said that you can't teach old dogs?

Thanks Everyone! No the gun is not mine but I saw it at the Griffin & Howe site and was just wondering what the flap was. Like Mike I knew that I would find the answer here.....:). This board is the best.

Wow!! Thanks for the picture, Michael. I should have looked more closely at the Joseph Lang I saw yesterday. I didn't notice if it had this on it or not. But what a neat feature on a gun. Good luck.
