Neither of my Golcher-Linders have the Golcher marking on the water table. The ten is #1741, the sixteen is #1662. The ten has the normal Golcher name and address on the rib, followed by "Jerre Godwin, Owner". Apparently, Mr. Godwin was not the only owner. The gold shield on the stock is engraved with the initials C, H, and S, or G, H, and S, in equal size. This particular gun is almost certainly mentioned in a 1914 Lancaster Trigger Company testimonial from an owner on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. That owner's name is not mentioned in the testimonial.

Michael, there is # 1182 stamped at the top of the barrel, very near to the T KILBY.

Bill, the forend does assist in opening the gun. The photo shows it is a stubby thing, but it weighs a ton, there is a lot of hardware inside of it.

Ken: Thanks for you expert opinion & input.It's a mystery to me as well. Aside from the name I see other tell-tale signs of it's being Linder made. The exquisitely engraved arabesques on the locks and action. The number 62 is all that appears on the fore arm iron.Thank you for your help.

Best Regards, George

Don't remember what the price was on that diamond grade.I went back and if you enlarge the 5th picture down with the stock the tag says $10,500.

this one sold today;

I didn't go to this one but would be suprised if it didn't beat the estimate.Anyone attend know what it went for?

Remember that SD&G always marketed and sold their Daly guns by model number, not grade. Some of the Daly guns were later grouped under umbrella terms like "diamond quality". One first introduced, the term "diamond quality" referred to a specific model (one harmless and one hammer gun model). However, the term "diamond quality" term was later applied to as many five different models marketed at the same time. While all these guns were technically of "diamond quality", there is big difference in the level of embellishment, and price, between a diamond quality model 225, for example, and the diamond quality model 375 at Ivory Beads.

As one of the former owners of the Hammerless Donn Gun pictured in this thread, it is my view that this shotgun was produced by Lindner. It has all of the charecteristics of what one may generally see on a Lindner produced gun as well as "PRUSSIA" Stamp (no less than four times!) on the water table.

It is my understanding that the country of origin stamp was required on finished items/products. (for example, we don't see "Made in Belgium" on the finished damascus barrels used by various US makers) Why is it that there are no Lindner Crown or crossed pistols on the barrel? Short answer is Thomas Kilby was a barrel maker of some renown and the person that ordered this shotgun knew exactly what he wanted and in this case it was Kilby barrels. Lindners Serial number(?)of 1182 is on the barrels however and in my view is more evidence that the Donn gun was produced to spec by Lindner.

The other un-asked question here is if all of the "T. Gloucher", "Jos Jakob" (and other)retailer marked Daly guns have the Lindner Crown and or crossed pistol marks?

Does the recently pictured (on this board) Sauer patented (US patent 505006) barreled Daly have the Linder Crown and crossed pistol marks on them? (I'll bet not in this case) The point I am attempting to make, until I hear other wise is that the Lindner crown and or pistol marks might only be found on barrels produced and finished by Lindner.

Not trying to stir things up here but only the owners of Daly guns will be able to prove or dis-prove my theory of Linder produced and marked barrels by submitting all of their guns info to Ken Georgi, the keeper of the Linder/Daly research database!

Jeff
