According to Bob Elliott's book, about 750 sidecockers were produced. What gauge is the one in your pictures? They are apparently scattered over serial numbers ranging from 5000 to 9242. In other words, not all the serial numbers were used. Batches of serial numbers may have been set aside for licensees, like Chas. Daly. Uncle Dan's sidecocker is the only American gun pictured and discussed in W.W. Greener's "The Gun".

To my untrained eye, your sidecocker looks like an E Grade with C Grade or higher wood. What is your serial number and configuration?

There are three Lindner-marked Dalys built on the Lefever sidecocker patent of 1880 in the database. These Daly guns are all in the 1800 - 2000 number range.

Bill,
I've seen some very nicely checkered stocks on lower grade sidecockers. Some of the best checkering I've seen on Lefevers. The B grade I owned wasn't much different than one of the E's I owned. I have the stock from the receiver I sent you that is highly checkered. You'd think A grade for sure, but it is an E grade.

Hello
I have 55 sidecockers recorded so far. The serail numbers are kind of spotty so its had to tell how many of them were built.
There are guns between....
6000-6800
8000-8100
9000-9250
So I would say there were around 1150 of them built.

Chris is right.
Ive seen a AA grade side cocker with very little engraving on it.

I have a very early B grade thumb push opener that has one dog engraved on each side and very little scroll. Ive seen fancier late F grades.
I look at Lefevers as they are what they are.
