Any information on Piotti 20 Bore SxS built in the 1980's that were "Shot & Regulated" by W.J. Jeffrey? How are they different - if at all - than the Piottis straight from Piotti? What does it mean "Shot & Regulated"? Are they "Best" quality guns?

"Shot by _____" means retailed by. It was probably taken out and shot by someone at Jeffrey. Basicly it's a way for a dealer/maker to get more money,(using their known name), for someone else's gun. My experience is that it doesn't mean much more money in shotguns but it makes a difference in rifles. With rifles they usually add new sights or something.

The Original Quality grade of the gun is at whatever level Piotti made King #1's in that time frame. Use of the term "best" requires a number of modifiers for modern guns; it is a very complex question and not good informantionally to answer as a simple "Yes" or "No."
"Shot and Regulated by XXX" is a way of adding Brand Value to the gun. In short, it puts the Jeffery reputatuion/brand value behind the gun. In the '80's UK, Jeffery may have had a bit more BV than Piotti.

gomiata - I'll send it to you, but you will have to be patient for maybe a few days. Also, note that I cut off my system at 1960ish guns as that is more or less when the Brit gun trade started major evolution. IMO, guns after the 1960's require a differing consideration. Improvements in metalurgy and machining tools and techniques pointed to highly durable guns at reduced cost. On the other hand, dramatic increases in labor costs pointed to reductions in finish standards. New designs and styles were born. Globalism blurred much of past knowledge and information is a stream of electrons.
"Fugidaboud" the Shot and Regulated mark. Now, how do you feel about the Piotti King #1 and how do you value it? That is most likely the best simple approach to this gun. Could the gun be some unrecognized super bargain? Not likely. Buy only if it meets your normal set of criteria.
