I was reloading a bunch of 28's today, getting ready for the dove season. Some of them were fired through my seemingly permanently on loan to my brother Parker, and the rest through my 28 CZ. I noticed right off that some would grudgingly resize and some didnt even need it. The difference is large. The smaller ones went through the CZ, the ones needing the most resizing through the Parker. I have had the the Parker since 1947-48, and it has had considerably less shooting than the CZ. Do you suppose there was that much dimensional difference at manufacture? Just curious...Opinions?

Check the Parkers chamber length, probably 2.5"

I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong

That Parker could be highly dangerous, best to send it to me for a check and test fire session.....It could possibly take all season to test properly. All kidding aside, I find that a pretty normal occurrence. It took long time for standardization to come to fruition.

You can answer your question by measuring chambers with a bore micrometer. Especially in earlier guns, chambers were quite different in diameter, especially in the larger bores. I have not noticed that the 28 gauge Parker chambers were especially large, however. Maybe yours were drilled out to clean up some pitting.

As I said, I have had the gun since 1947 or 8 and I imagine my Dad bought it new, I know it hasnt been touched. My question didnt have anything to do with its present chamber size, I just wondered if they varied that much...I think Steve prolly pegged it, thanks..

Brother David actually OWNS 2 guns, a Remington 870 and a Winchester Model 70 in .375 (Pre 64). He has more than that, most of them mine. Perhaps, Steve, between the 2 of us, we can hogtie him and get a couple back? Seeya, Its been raining here all day, so far over 3 inches, finally cooled off. Yes it likes all grouse...

Steve,
I bet you will need some help assessing that 28g. I'll help as well. Chuck will appreciate two opinions. I know a good place to test it and if Chuck will send several flats of shells along with it....strickly for scientific study, of course, we can probably sacrifice our time for this.
