I want to load 1 1/4 ounce of bismuth in regular 2.75 " case, plastic shot cup, at 7500 p.s.i. max. Does any one have a load for 1 1/4 ounce or even more? Any help would be apprecaited. Thank you.

Go to the Hodgdon Reloading Center on the web. Hodgdon Longshot powder is probably going to be your best choice.

One my favorites from their recipes:

12ga 2 3/4" Win AA case:

Bismuth 1 1/4 oz. 26.4 gr Longshot powder, Win. 209 primer Rem. RP12 Wad, 7,500 PSI 1250fps

Don't forget to use buffer,...Bismuth perfoms better as a beffered load.

I have a reloading manual for Bismuth,...I can check for a good load using 7625 for you tonight

If you're in top-tier "northern U.S." you should consider other than 7625 unless you're keeping it in your pockets. It's not a cold weather load.

There were no loads for 7625, but quite a few for 4756 too many to list and with all different hulls and components,...best order this "Bismuth Reloading Manual" from Ballistic for 12.95 and you'll be all set

One note on using buffer. It increases pressures in our testing and those done by Sherman Bell.

Personally, I've never needed buffer in my bismuth hand loads. But, I shoot over decoys.

King is correct. 7625 is great in warm weather, but when used in conjunction with the Rem SP12 wad in most straight walled hulls will result in excessive powder migration. This can cause bloopers in colder weather.

Longshot, Blue Dot and other slower burning flake powders are a better choice than 7625 in straight walled hulls.

IF you want to use IMR SR7625 in cold weather, stay with loads above 9.000 psi in loading manuals and use a wad that fits the hull walls snuggly (like Russ says). Go to even higher pressure loads in manuals for really cold weather, say -10C to -20C. I have used IMR SR7625 for decades when ice was on the water and had no bloopers, SO LONG AS I KEPT ACTUAL CHAMBER PRESSURES UP. Avoid loads that have low listed chamber pressures (say 7.500 psi) in warm weather -- they will give bloopers in cold weather, once they have been in a cold gun for a while, because chamber pressures will have gone too low.
