I have to say there is no way I'd tangle with the BATF over such an unimportant gun and issue. It's not like it's a valuable gun, and it's not like you can't just err on the side of caution and use an FFL holder to complete the deal.

IMO, the BATF probably keeps a log of every inquiry they get. Someday they'll use it against you one way or the other.

It's like calling the IRS, giving them your name and SSN, and asking if you can deduct the expenses you incur from conducting your "Why the Government Has no Right to Tax You" seminar.

It's like casually mentioning to your wife that if some 'crazy lady' calls and insists you pay child support, she should just hang up and forget about it.

I would keep a very, very low profile around the BATF, the IRS, and any wife/girlfriend conflicts. It's good common sense.
