Lets go the other way for once. Let's read some posts about internet deals that have gone better than expected. I've not been burned yet and I do about 3 deals a month.

I wouldn't even mind seeing some hunting stories and pictures. That would really freshen up this board.

A couple of my gun purchases have been from volume dealers but most were not. I'd say on average the ones that were as good as or better than I expected did not come from dealers. The last gun I got was probably the best surprise, and only because it was a Gunbroker auction and the auction didn't reach its potential due to poor pictures.

Let me tell you about a deal that went well and a very honourable dealer, although it was face-to-face and not net. Some while ago, I got a call from a dealer I knew asking if I were interested in seeing a side-plated Dickson boxlock. Since I'm very fond of Dicksons, I trundled by. The gun was beautifully cased in a recent Huey O&L. Sideplates and all. When I took it out, I realized it wasn't a boxlock, but a side-plated Dickson trigger-plate action, which makes it about as rare as hen's teeth. And, worth a good deal more than a boxlock. Since he was a friend, I pointed this out and suggested he might want to re-price the gun upwards. He replied that the price was the price and did I want it. Does a pope do it in the woods? Does The Bear wear white socks? I don't need to name him, lest I seem to be trumpeting my gun knowledge. It's hard to tell and even Dicksons don't know how many they made. They think less than two dozen, maybe a lot less. Easy mistake to make. Still, I'd happily buy a gun from him sight unseen, and he is an internet dealer, as are most people these days.

Hey Leo:
Why NOT name this dealer? With so many horror stories going around at this time including ripoffs galore I think most would be happy to know the name of a dealer with this kind of scruples.
I agree with Mike in that there's been a lot of depressing stuff lately.

Amen to that endorsement. Jack is going on 50 years as a reputable gun dealer, and has knowledge galore- ditto now retired friend Bill Jaqua of the Findlay Ohio area- his daughter Cam runs the op. now- Also add Felix Bedlan of Fairbury NE-like me, a pre-64 Winchester man- he was a major help with fotos and M12 knowledge for the Dave Riffle book- haven't heard anything bad about Dave either-the interent is great, and the reputable dealers and private sellers will always have clietele- but for anyone to deliberately mis-represent a gun, and then try a "loop-hole" dodge to avoid a 100% refund is not honorable. About 20 years ago I did business with Bill Jaqua at the Grand in August in Vandalia-nice to feel you are doing business with a gentleman, and realizing that all dealers have overhead- whether they are selling cars or firearms- I have never met Jack, but have two former military buddies living in MN that have purchased guns from him, and they also say the same-knowledge of his products and customer base- and a showroom in down Duluth that would make Mike De Angello (the dude who did the Sistine Chapel) envious!! Let's support the good guys, and let the crooks sink to the depths of the pool!! RWTF

The only gun deal I've had in Texas that wasn't great was with H.Chadick.Briely,John Boyd,Larry Freeland have been great.Cater Country has paid way more than expected on used guns that needed to move. Collectors is good if you visit live and do some digging, was disapointed in BSA Deluxe that ,well I'm sure it didn't come with a 11 3/4" stock.Kirk Merrington is first to give extra in what you recive.never heard anything but good on members of this board that do gun work,Ken,Mann and Mike Orlen and Mark also Brian when he was selling guns tring to make a liveing other than playing in sand.God Bless them all
