I'm going to be VERY interested in the repair strategy.
I would have posted, about two pages ago, a suggestion that you (DT) be contacted -- but I quickly realized that BLH didn't need that advice!

Easiest repair for that giun is a new blank and a new stock. If you do end up repairing that stock you should post it as your humpty dumpty job. But can even all the kings men even put that one back togeather again?

Certainly that would be one first-class answer. However, if the butt is as nice as I'd guess, a reverse butt transplant could save it without trying to glue all the splinters. Of course the sidelock inletting labor will keep even DT busy for a while, but a good piece of walnut the size needed for the head could well come from a leftover from one of many stocking jobs, saving lots of $$ for a top-grade blank.

I completed this "Repair'onJanuary 2nd.2004. 100% Structurally and a fullrefurbish to all outside surfaces as there was massive damage to the 'comb' and right-side of the stock, also the 'Butt-End had several small stones embedded 'Well & Good' into the'Bump. After the'Fillit Repair' and all the missing areas in the hand had had new wood inleted "Acraglassed" in place, picked up the original chequering, then re-cut witha 120deg.London'flat-top'cutting tool,Ref. The person who is responsible for this damage should be treated to something with synthetic stock reinforced with kevlar fibers! May I suggest Armi Benelli of Beretta Group? Oh yes, lets replace that Lexus or Land Rover SUV with small Suzuki. Don't laugh, those things have very low weight, so they can go almost anywhere.

Jonty,If you are ever in "My Area" you have a standing Invitation to come and see What has 'gone through' the Used(sorry,) Previously Owned Gun Auctions, and the "Oh so British Old School(and Regimental)Tie Brigade of dare I say it....USED GUN & RIFLE DEALERS" A couple of quotes...'What the eyes cant see' the heart wont grieve over! 'If a GUNMAKER MADE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE, A GUNMAKER CAN REMAKE IT(repair)THE 2nd TIME.! As the 'Best in the Business at Purdeys' My Gaffer Bill O'Brien said to a Young "Squire" who W.Keith Neal had brought to Purdey's Irongate Wharf Factory, to have Bill the Tom Purdey's Repair man,'Put back together the No2 gunstock of a pair of 'Oh if you only knew who these guns were made for",and after all the scrutiny that they were subjected to before they sold for a Extremely'High price. The Experts employed by the Purchaser gave them a 'Clean Bill of Health'That stock was stronger, by far, than when it left JP&S.(And the repair was undetectable, even to Harry lawrence)..Trevallion.
