Jimmy,
If you are using a PC and have Microsoft Windows, just right click on the picture, go down to Save Picture As, you will get a drop-down to where you want it to go, I select Desktop, hit save and picture is then on desktop where you can enlarge it by puttng the arrow on enlarge and then put the cursor on the part and it will enlarge that particular spot. Because resolution is low, it will start to distort very quickly.

Like I posted earlier, original picture on right lock plate shows faint line behind lock plate.

There is no way those cracks happened in shipping. The seller needs to just cough up the money for shipping.

I bought a Purdey muzzleloader from "supposedly" one of the most reputable dealers on the net...

The rib was smashed from some bozo gunsmith mOnkey wrenching out the breach plugs.
When it came I called him within minutes of it's arrival.....I heard everything from "damaged by UPS" to "damaged by me". It went back to him and He never refunded my shipping.

A short time later I saw another gun on his site that interested me I was foolish enough to trust him again.

When the gun came I immediately noticed an Australian Importers name lightly engraved on top of the left barrel.
Called him up and told him he should've told me this was on the gun...no offer of money back or not so much as a I'm sorry I should have told you.
The next day upon further examination I noticed one of the ejectors kicking every now and then when opening the "unfired" gun.

I called him up and low and behold he claimed that he and a friend had been shooting this very gun and never noticed it doing this...

Just some more bull hockey from an Internet Gun Dealer.

The gun is a really nice shooter so I kept it...he won again.

I was quite surprised when I found out who the dealer was. In 35 years in business, I have never heard any bad press on Game Fair Ltd, John Allen. Naturally, being in this business I had dealt with most dealers at one time or another, either at the buying or selling end. My pasts dealing with John have always been straight up. I personally trust John completely.

I am sorry Jason that you and John Allen are at an impass. What I can say is that if John described a gun to me I know I would accept his description.

I sincerely hope that somehow Jason you can put this behind you and maybe you two can get together and meet in the middle and go on done the road on this one.

Best to all

John --- it hardly changes the impression of Game Fair. I know I'll never give him the chance to do to me what he did to Jason. No telling how many people this info will filter down to and how much worse the story will get over time. It's a shame to gamble 35 years in the trade for the small amount required to quietly settle this affair. Now, if others are like me, everytime I hear the name Game Fair memories of Jason will return. Wonder how much money Mr. Allen has lost on this deal.

I ncan see the crack line on that sideshot...If you didn't know it was there, it might look like a grainline & could be missed, but knowing it's there its pretty easy to find it...so it was cracked prior to shipping for sure.
good luck Jason

Lets see, you can buy a full page add in a gun magazine for thousands of dollars or skimp on a few bucks shipping and ruin your trade name. Seems like a no brainier to me but not the seller. Most of us hate to admit that we made a mistake. First deny, then strongly deny. He sure has gotten his monies worth of advertising out of this transaction.

The crack was there before the gun left the building. He "might" have missed it, in bad light, but I bet ten bucks if you owned that gun and sent it to him, the dealer, would sure as heck seen and pointed out the crack. Particularity on a maker who is well known for having cracks in this very area.

With the price of restocking a side plated gun about what this one sold for the crack needed to be mentioned. It alone was not a deal killer to me but it should have been known by the buyer. Buy a crack stock at your won risk, and many of us have, and gotten years out of them with no problem. Do not expect the buyer to accept a cracked stock gun for the agreed price if he specifically asks if one is present. Would you expect him to take this gun if the barrels or stock had been cut 4" shorter, if he asked if they were original? I think not.

I first met John Allen at a gunshow in Birmingham, Al about 25 years ago. He had a lot of nice model 21's and several Derrydale editions of Nash Buckingham's books. He is a sharp gun trader but I have always found him to be honest. I used him to sell a Steel Shot special Parker Repo on consignment a few years ago. I used the proceeds to buy a 410 L.C. Smith. I have been to his shop in Nashville a time or two and have consulted him on a number of occasions by phone. He has always been generous and gracious with his time and knowledge. I am sorry things did not work out. I would still trust him, I am sorry that many here now would not.

If Mr Harrison was selling this Smith to Mr Allen, you bet your bottom dollar, Mr Allen would have seen and made mention of these little cracks then... don't you think?

I think it is unfortunate that these things happen, but dealers might start to think twice before they screw someone out of shipping and handling and other odds and ends. They might get run through the internet gamet. On the flip side got to watch out for someone with an axe to grind trying to "get even" with a dealer whom they think did them wrong but really did not. It could be a dicey situation.
