I have probably just missed it twice searching for info on them, but can someone explain this forum’s star system?

I knew the boxlock and sidelock monikers were based on the number of posts and had originally thought that the stars were just a continuation of that system. But then I grew to three stars and didn’t know why, especially when some members with thousands of posts more then I had less stars. Then I went down to two stars and now most recently one.

So what do the stars mean?

I once too had several stars...

I think some childish men moved me down to one star ...I almost sold my SxS's...

I'm back up to two and can't explain it...even with alot of people ignoriing me.

...it had to be a miracle of some sort.

Well now, in our Olde "Village", the double muzzles were said by some (later to become desaparecidos, of course, in the usual manner of these things) to allow a "peer" rating based on 1) perception of your double-gun knowledge, 2) your helpfulness and sensitivity, 3) your adherence to the gentleman's code. The muzzles seemed to work pretty well as ". . . an armed society is a polite society." Now we've got the stars and most of us are seeing them as we daily batter on the other guy for 1) slights and provocations, 2) lack of political enlightenment, 3) cause we just plain don't like him.

Of course the ratings are automatically averaged by the "star program" or whatever. Your best buddy gives you a 5; that little gomer you can't stand gives you a 1 and Viola! 1+5/2=3 beautiful stars and the old gentleman's "C" so to speak and a result devoutly to be desired in my opinion. However, the popularity contest is complicated by some hard taskmasters who really do admire you (provisionally) and give you a 1 because they think the system's cumulative and that eventually, thru hard striving to engratiate yourself with other like-minded persons, you'll get "stars". Course that ain't gonna happen as 1+1+1+1/3=1.

Also not entirely safe from historical analysis either. I just gave you a 5 and saw you up to 2. Way I figure it you have 1+1+1+5/4=2 so I am your best buddy and very generous cf. to your other friends. Thanks for listening.

Just to show you how crazy it is...I once rated the fOx at 4 stars. ...now he has 1 little bitty twinkle of a star...(and the funny part is he's ignoring me the man that made him a multi-star)...don't ya just love it.

I must have been out of my dang mind...

Amigo...I rated you 1 star because there was no zerO rating.

Rabbit...I rated you 5 Stars and stiil think you are at least a solid 4.

It reflects whether you are an asset or liability. Just think how bad I feel. I have the same number as Joe.

I get it:
You have to take the square root of a randomly generated number and multiply it by the average wall thickness of your favorite double. This is then divided by your favorite gauge and then you subtract you favorite shot size from that result. Now it's time to multiply by length of pull after subtracting drop at heel. take your favorite barrel length divided by average weight and add it to the last number and you're done.
BTW: By my calculations I should have six stars!!
Jim
