I need a source for a half round half octagon barrel for a model 39 Marlin and the fitting there of. Gun is a 1966 made one and I need someone familiar with this work. I know Steven Dodd Hughes has done this but I don't think he is taking any more of this type work. This is for my son's birthday and since he is 35 I would like to have it done by the time he is 40(the complete gun with stock work and engraving, the whole works)

From time to time Marlin offered octagon barrels for the Model 39. They might have one in stock. You could have in turned to half round. Contact Marlin. They might even have a 1/2 round, 1/2 octagon barrel.

If you look closely, that M-39 barrel is round-oct-round like the one on this M-94 I delivered in 2005, with engraving by my good friend Michael Dubber.

I'd be happy to design a custom barrel.

Glenn Fewless might want to contour, chamber & fit it?
We had better get busy if we are to make that delivery date!

I saw pictures of a Marlin you did several years ago and that was what gave me the idea in the first place as I have always liked the Marlins. I have the Marlin book by Brophy and he has several really nice engraved .22 levers in models 92 and 39.I'll contact you via pm if your adress is in the members listings. I really like the half magazine feature as well.Thank you so much and Mr. Moody also.

No tang sight?!

I like what you did with that.

That is a hell of a bluing job on that barrel. I'd love to hear more about how that was done, and how the barrel was prepped if you care to describe it.

Unfortunately, Marlin tang sights prevent one from putting the thumb over the top of the grip. At the client's request, this rifle has the much rarer short-bar sight with a stepped elevator I hand filed. Here's the front sight, also hand-made with a lathe turned 18kt gold bead with a blind shank that is assembled after bluing and riveted in place.

Brent, in an earlier post I said that there is simply too much variation to rust bluing to try and convey what I do on this forum. I've writtten a lot about my process here already, although the search function sucks.
I am looking for a workshop associate - not apprentice; someone ready, willing and able to go to work. Naturally that person would learn what I know working side-by-side. Besides, I get paid to write technical gun info, so what I do here must be easy and entertaining.
One more view of the Marlin M-94 grip.

This was a straight-grip gun when I started. Bending the lever was technically challenging.

You went from straight to pistol and I've been trying to find an easy way to take my 39A from pistol to straight. I cannot find a source for a replacement straight finger lever.

Curt, I don't think there is an 'easy way', several parts would need to be replaced.
