The article in DGJ also described the difficulty in joining the barrels of the GL vs the Red Label. Evidently it led to wasted stock, so both more labor, time in production and wasted parts. The process required rust bluing to finish the gun. I've heard they also spent some time on the joint in front of the chambers; some guns joined cleanly, but most guns were engraved over the joint for cosmetics, more time again.
