My Blue Book says $450 for a 20 ga. M12 in 10% condition. Add 40-50% for solid rib. This makes $630-675. You could tell him you'll have the expense of lengthening the chamber, in your dickering. From what Replacement said above, this probably isn't really necessary. (my Blue Book is from 2007)

I would agree that $450 is a decent retail price for a Model 12 20 ga in the described condition. However why in the hell does every individual think he's going to get retail out of a used gun? The dealer can justify it because he has overhead etc. to cover. I see people walking around with guns priced at retail all the time at gun shows and when they stop at my table my usual response is "If I want to pay retail for a gun I'll buy it from a dealer and get some sort of guarantee to go with it." Their response usually is "That's what the sources I checked say this gun is worth".
The BBGV IMO should be amended to reflect the prices a typical dealer or private individual will pay for a firearm not some conceived "Retail Price" that could be realized only under the best of circumstances. This publication and other sources do a real disservice all the way around by encouraging unreasonable expectations in the general public.
