I'm with Daryl on this one, without knowing what you have it's impossible to make any recommendations. I have a good friend and if something happens to me my collection and library will be shipped to Rock Island auction company. If something happen to him I will do the same for his collection. When I get to the point where I can no longer look after my collection it will go to auction. I have been following the auction circuit my whole adult life and that is were the money is for fine guns. If you have expensive or one-of-a-kind collectibles they need to be at auction.

Become a "Big Brother" and a "Big Sister", take the kids shooting and hunting, develop a relationship, have an influence on their lives and help produce new sportsmen and sportswomen. Then, if you are comfortable, give them your guns. Just a thought.

I knew one guy that did that, Bob and after he died an illegitimate kid showed up at the funeral, plucked out a piece of his dad's hair and asked where all his stuff was. Have to think about that one.

I have a large collection of some nice guns and none of my kids want any of them. So, I am telling the wife to call Rock Island to come and pick them up when I'm gone and to sell them. They are one of the biggest and have a very large network of customers. Just call Pat Hogan and tell him what you have in mind. Frank

I really had not thought about it. Years ago I wrote a will that left each gun to a special person. Many guns and a couple of wills later, that is no longer the case. I assume that my daughters will get their mother's silver and my son will get my guns. Hopefully, they will survive his college days and he will have a son or two to pass them down to. If not, I have certainly enjoyed them and the friends I met through them and I will be beyond material concerns at that point anyway.

Tyler, I can't do that, because I only have 1 son that would really be interested in having them, but if he got them, him and his drug head friends would trade, sell, or pawn them to get drugs, and that just ain't gonna happen if I can help it. That is why I am going through this now, my other 2 sons would just sell them for what they could get quick, like has been alluded to previously here, because they have no concept of guns or their value, nor do they care, so unless you are sure your heirs really want them and would care for and keep them, I suggest you get busy finding a fitting finale for your estate. My 2 sons not interested in guns, will be well rewarded with my collection of musical instruments, being that both of them are musicians.
thanks binko

Mike, I answered the question on page 2 here and here's the text of that answer.
"4 English SxS's, 2 L C Smith's, 3 Parkers, 1 Spanish SxS Best Gun , 2 Fox SxS's, 1 Remington 1900 SxS, 2 Knickerbockers SxS's, 1 1187 Premier Trap, 1 H&K O&U Max II. Most 12ga, and over 100 yrs old except for the obvious.
2 Custom 1911's, 1 Kimber 1911
I am trying to get this set up so it will be easier on her if I should pass. I just bought a Holland and Holland, 1890 Royal Ejector from a guy that passed the day after he shipped it to me, so it has got me to thinking."

Also have, 1 H-91 in 308 and a couple of misc. pistols.

You know this thread brings to mind all the rest of the stuff that we own but do not think about. I have two grand plus in reloaders, tons of stuff that I use with my guns that cost a lot of money over the years. Metal lathes, stock duplicator, power and hand tools to fill up a double bay garage. A wood rack of stock blanks that I will never use up. Talking about 150 plus stock blanks, even if I live to restock every project gun that I own. Books that are about guns and hunting. 75,000 once fired hulls, mostly 12's. I have too much invested in this hobby to die. I might just have to live to use it all up. Otherwise my wife would never forgive me for making her get rid of all my junk.
Kidding aside I need to think about where to get rid of more than just guns. I suspect that others will need to do likewise.

After my passing into the next life, what is the best way for my girlfriend to handle my gun collection?
I would be interested in hearing what others are thinking or have planned.
Questions:
1 - Where is the best place to go, that handles "Estate Sales"? 2 - Who would you trust to give an honest appraisal so one would know if the price the consignor puts on a gun is fair? 3 - Would an outright sale or consignment be best? 4 - What is the going % rate a person should expect to pay to handle the sale? 5 - What discount from Blue Book Value would be fair on an outright buy? (Cabela's, etc.)
Of course I am requesting your opinion only!
binko Not to be judgemental, but why would you consider a girlfriend a "spouse", even one of 13 years duration? Write a will and leave the guns to a family member or good shooting/hunting buddy.
