1. Write the list with the value of what you paid and what it is worth. So family member has an idea if the auction house is giving a desent price. THIS MUST BE UPDATED YEARLY 2. Give family member, lawyer or whomever a few top auction house s and which one you wish them to use. I like Julias. 3. Do some estate planning with your attorney. IMO find someone that specializes in this area. 4. Next don't worry anymore.

Jim, that's because she WOULD be my wife, if by marring me, she wouldn't loose more than half of her Social Security check, cause she would then have to draw on mine at only 1/2 of what I get. I only have 1 good hunting buddy, and he's in worse health than me, and I have 3 son's which I explained about in an earlier post, and I am an "only child", and my x's have gotten enough. I acquired 95% of these since I have been with Shirley, and she deserves any money from them, for no other reason than the fact that she never gave me any lip about any purchase I ever made, and did I say that she never fussed about any of them...no not one. I always told her the amount I paid for each, even the H&H, and her only reaction was a raised eyebrow. My kind of girl, that's why I am still here and she is going to be rewarded. Oh, and did I mention that I get breakfast in bed EVERY Sunday morning...I think that was a post in another topic. Well she is gonna be rewarded for her dedicated service to me. Thanks for asking, I fell better about my decision now.

Thanks Tim, I plan to do most of what you suggest, and I will contact Julia's for a quote on handling the deal. I have already sent requests to 2 other auction houses for quotes, and I have a few more to send, including Julia's.

binko: If for some reason you get tired of "Shirley" I expect that several of the members of this forum would be more than happy to take her in. It sounds like you have the ideal "soul mate" and are in a very good relationship. My hat's off to you! Jim

I've been trading some my old guns for new rifles(Kimber'n Coopers) of known values. New rifles keep the all seeing eyes of the condition mongers away - next stop...a Dakota! I enjoy them as much, and shoot them more.

Thanks for your concern Binko. Ty loves guns and is missing football practice this afternoon to shoot in the annunal club championship, his last year as a Jr. I know of the perils of growing up and realize that he may not stay the way he is but I hope to live until he reaches a more permanet level of maturity. I probably will add a codicil to my will giving a few select guns to a few good friends. I guess I could start with just letting everyone keep the ones that are loaned out now. Tough choices, but sounds like you have a good partner to work with.

Cash today is the life blood. Your home isn't worth as much - your guns aren't worth as much either. When cash is in hand, everything else is second best. I know fellows who have had their guns on consignment, with real world prices and yet they sit...and sit! Time to buy - not sell. ...but when the crunch time comes(and o'baby it will) stewpot hunt 'em, because that gent will offer only 60% of their value and when your cold and hungry.....

Lots of folks in "Dreamworks world" out there. There is a Winnie Mod 21 game gun (28", pg, sfe, sst) on consignment with tag of $6250. I made generous offer through the dealer of 5k USD equivalent in Swiss Franks (good solid currency) and the hombre said no. Okie dokie, no problemo. Hombre thinks it's still 2005. Yeh Thorny, those poor widows will be lucky if they get 60% of the value. Money talks BS walks!
