Wow, Jim!! Five stars!! Just like George M. Patton. He was from Indiana too!! I don't know how his wife Mamie ever put up with him being away all the time but she did. Get your facts right, Jimmy! D A M N! General George S. Patton had 4 Stars, was from California, and his wife's name was Beatrice. And Mamie was Ike's wife, she was from Boone Iowa, and whether she went down coal mines or not, I don't know, but Iowa coal mines are not a lot bigger than foxholes - which is how I use them when deer hunting around here. AND THE WINNERS ARE.............DON MOODY and BRENTD!!! COME ON DOWN !! These are the only two guys who pointed out these mistakes. George (S.) Patton had four stars. Mamie was Eisenhower's wife and it was Ellenor Roosevelt who went down into the coal mines because her husband Franklin couldn't. Congratulations, guys!! You two get five stars in my book, for sure, any day!!

Maybe you mean old Westmoreland- SOB was more into his tennis and scotch than intel and recon-he was CG at Ft. Campbell when "Ike" sent the 101st. to Little Rock AK-Had two best buddies-one 3rd Mar Div- one 1st Mar Div- both KIA in The 'Nam- ain't no bad Marines my friend (except maybe L.H. Oswald) and your beloved Lt. Gen. Lewis B. Puller (only Marine to be awarded 5 Navy Crosses) said leadership best in 4 short words; "Officers Always Eat Last"-- RWTF All The Way!!

My first wife's father served with him-wounded at Bastogne (Bronze Star and the Purple Heart) after recouperating in England, was again re-assigned at Patton's request-and as he was fluent in German, was NCOIC of prisoner interrogation.
I won the book on Patton by Alan Alexrod on a Military Book Club history/trivia/movie question contest (my favorite stuff), and if you would like, I'll send it to you on loan- My wife's father served under Patton in the Third Army when they landed in Southern France and made their run into Germany. He also earned the Bronze Star(with three Oak Leaf clusters) and the Purple Heart. It is good if you to offer to loan the book. I think I would like to read it. PM or Email me. PS. How about John Wayne?
