Why is it "real" military guys speak little of what they have done in the military??

My Dad was a Korean War veteran, and took a lot more to the grave with him than I ever heard him talk about. Just from watching and hearing him talk about what little bit he had to say, I always kinda felt like he didn't want to talk about it because it would cause him to relive it. Don't know for sure, that's just my opinionated guess.
