Interesting opinion Dean- I agree. A friend has a M24 20 gauge 28"- and he spent beaucoup $ with a gunsmith/stockmaker trying to "beautify it" still clunky- but as he can hit birds with it like a house afire-well you can guess the finale here. The "worst" doubles- as far as: (1) Looks- the M24- (2) Function-I don't know.!RWTF

My vote probably goes to some of the ones that are put out today. How about a Stoeger? After a few rounds of skeet or trap with one, you can plan on it falling apart. Maybe they are nice for a house gun, but you won't get much out of one shooting it for very long.

Fox/Stevens after the Model "B", I believe they were the "BSE's", w/ stamped checkering, poor wood, and poor fit. I have a Fox "B" Model, my first gun, still in service, still very tight after 70 years, over 50 with me. No one here has mentioned, Century, Folsum, or American Gun Co., pretty heavy and clunky. I think the Savage/Stevens/fox doubles are pretty crude and ugly. The Crescents are the same. A crummy design with one wire hairpin spring for the hammer and sear. I wouldn't put the Rugers very high on the list, either. I don't think any of the Stoeger guns are made in the USA. Maybe never were. I agree on the Winchester M24.

I would agree on the Crescents, except that a part of me would love to have a .410 quail hammerless. Something about that little gun I really like.

I dont think there is a "worst". I sneered at Stevens guns for a long time till my Daughters bought a couple and we started to shoot them. The Win 24 is IMHO the ugliest....They all work, and for the price, back in the day, you got a pretty good bargain on any of them, evidence the way they have lasted...

When compared to ole' three trigger hammer model  from Stevens Arms Co. the Model 24 is a thing of beauty.  I would think Winnie Mod. 24 would far outlast poacher grade piece from Crescent Arms Co.

I have seen some clunkers made by a company that made guns for over 80 years including good numbers of pinfire shotguns. Farmer grade from MA und CT all the way, baby!  The prestigous sounding N.R. Davis & Co., jolly hoooo, Heee-Haaaaw baby!

Yes and no on the Crescents- I "overhauled one" into a Cowboy Action shotty-gun for a friend- 12 gauge hammer sidelock- 30" heavy walled barrels- tight lock-up, heavy trigger pulls but good sear engagement-forearm latch similar to Parker VH design-solid, no great wood but good fit by lockplates-and no "Elsie" splittings. I have 12 ga. receiver, left sideplate, trigger plate with triggers, top lever and bolt for a 12 Crescent- a Chicago Hibbard Spencer "jobbers" gun-if anyone is looking to rebuild or repair a Crescent. And the .410 Hammer Crescents are indeed- "Eye candy" for those small-bore folks. Me, make mine a 12!!RWTF
