Mike- I wonder how our resident engraving artisan Ken Hurst would rate the engraving of the pre-Titanic American vintage doubleguns: Parker, L.C. Smith, A.H. Fox, Ithaca, Uncle Dan LeFever and Baker-grade for grade to make a level playing field. A friend won a 12 ga. M21 that had been "upgraded by Pachmyer" with dummy sideplates, inlays, fancy scoll work- one of 50 guns Mr. P donated to DU a few years back- apparently one for each State. Lipstick on a pig? No, more like Patton's comment about a fancy New Orleans bordello with the red tapestries I'd guess- gun was valued at $20K when he won it- on a $50 ticket- had to pay the IRS for the "gain" just as with a winning "Powerballs" ticket-and still can't find a buyer near the $20K figure- too fancy to take to the duck marsh- too valuable to take to the skeet club- life can be a bitch I guess (Hillary included)!! 0 or 1, true or false, good or bad, shooter or old duffer? Yes.
We'd all like to have our cake and eat it. Personally, I'd like to see a lot of good ol plate engraving on good ol money. That would be just the ticket.

I could swear Lowell scrubbed and subbed his entire lead subject/question/inspiration/navel gaze on one of his two threads currectly running p. 1. My post #113587 on this one appears totally psychotic even to me but I'd swear I took off on the sendup of manichean oppositions based on the what LG had posted at that time (last Sun. morning). Anything to that, Lowell, or am I dreaming? Might could be a couple other early posts on this one that don't reveal much of a connection to the lead post as it stands now.

Rabbit this thread (the one you are reading right now) was started six or seven weeks ago. It starts out about like this one which was started a couple of days ago:

http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbt...ge=1#Post113517

To further confuse the situation I put a link to this August 3 thread in the above thread.

Sorry for adding to the confusion.

Best,

Mike

If I'm confused, I don't think you deserve the credit, Mike. My hunch is the content of the lead (Lowell's) post on 3 Aug. bore little similarity to what's there after 21 Sept. BICBW. Doesn't matter I guess. Gives us a chance to recreate the famous chess[nut]master's positions of the past. New blood here every day who come to learn and one of the ways they can is by replaying these old oppositional setpieces of opinion and personal experience (yawn).
