The Greg, that piece is called a bridle and it is designed to hold the other pieces in line. It is very important to proper functioning. Hard to say without a picture but I suppose it could be TIG welded and refit. Find a good gunsmith to do it. Worse case senario a new one could be made though I imagine it'd be costly. There will be no source of ready made parts--sorry.
